Since childhood, I watched my parents get their news through tightly controlled channels: first the radio, then black-and-white TV, then color, and of course, newspapers. These outlets were monopolized by a handful of powerful corporations, carefully curating the narratives we consumed. Breaking free from this stranglehold on information required reading encyclopedias or traveling abroad to glimpse alternate perspectives.
The arrival of social media began to erode this monopoly. Independent sources emerged, challenging the mainstream narrative. Then came Artificial Intelligence—a tool with the potential to amplify this revolution.
In the U.S., the Mainstream Media (MSM) grew increasingly restrictive, silencing or ignoring major global stories that clashed with their agendas. For instance, the European farmer revolt of the summer of 2024—a seismic event—barely registered in American MSM.
However, platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and podcasts became beacons of unfiltered truth. The establishment, desperate to regain control, launched a counteroffensive. By 2020, intelligence agencies like the FBI and CIA had infiltrated social media companies to steer narratives. Under the guise of combating COVID-19 misinformation, they suppressed dissent, silencing voices online and, in parts of Europe, even jailing individuals—grandmothers included—for daring to speak their minds.
They weaponized terms like “misinformation,” “disinformation,” and “malinformation,” deploying an army of so-called fact-checkers to throttle the independent flow of ideas.
Enter Elon Musk. Having faced the wrath of cancel culture firsthand, he made a bold move: purchasing Twitter for a staggering $44 billion—not as a business venture, but as a stand for free speech. Despite the financial hit, he effectively became the savior of the First Amendment, not just in the United States but globally. Musk’s audacious example inspired others to fight for the unimpeded exchange of ideas.
History will likely record Musk’s acquisition of Twitter as a turning point. By protecting the platform from censorship and empowering independent voices, he ensured that the unfiltered sound bites of truth reached the people.
The 2024 election is shaping up to be the freedom of speech election. Thanks to podcasts, independent creators, and social media, the MSM’s grip is faltering. A new era of open discourse is dawning—and the people are winning.
